San Jose is the 3rd largest city in California, and the 10th largest in the US. It is the county seat of Santa Clara County. Once a small farming city, San Jose became a magnet for suburban newcomers in new housing developments between the 1960s and 1990s, and is now the largest city in Northern California. The United States Census Bureau population estimates the city’s population for 2007 as 939,899.
